A ball that was held back in April to celebrate Stansted Airport’s 25th year since it opened has managed to raise a staggering £1500 for two amazing causes.
The charities are; Essex Air Ambulance, who rely solely on the generosity of donations from the general public, and the Firefighters charity, which is the UK’s leading provider of services that aim to help retired firemen and firewomen. These two causes were chosen from a long list of charities and came out the most popular, as voted for by the committee members.
The guests invited to the event included over 300 past and present employees, some of which even travelled from as far as New Zealand! It looks as if it was worth the trip as an incredible £750 was given to each charity on Thursday as a result of a raffle held at the ball.
A social group named ‘Airport Buddies’, which was set up by former employee, Cate Scott, was the event organiser. The ball received sponsorship from the owner of Stansted Airport, Manchester Airport Group – who also owns East Midlands Airport and Manchester Airport – and the airport trade union Unite.
It sounds like a fantastic evening and we wish Stansted Airport a very Happy Birthday! Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for more information on the fourth busiest airport in the UK – @StanstedTweets.
